Standardisation
Laying down the same way of working so that it becomes predictable.
Standardisation means agreeing on one way of working and sticking to it everywhere. Instead of everyone handling a task in their own way, you agree how it is done. That makes the result predictable and easier to hand over.
You notice the big advantage with mistakes and with new colleagues. When everyone works the same way, a mistake is quicker to spot and fix, and a new employee learns the job faster. The knowledge then sits in the agreement, not only in one person's head.
Standardise what benefits from uniformity, not everything. Work that calls for judgement and a tailored approach needs room. The art is to pin down the routine and leave the creative free.
