Lean

Taking waste out of processes so that only valuable work remains.

Lean is a way of working centred on removing waste. Anything that makes a process heavier without adding value, such as unnecessary waiting, duplicate work or redundant steps, you try to cut out. What remains is the work that really matters.

The core idea is to look at the whole from the customer's point of view. Where does a step add value for whoever receives the result, and where does it not? That question often exposes habits that crept in at some point and now only cost time.

Lean is not a one-off clean-up but a mindset. It works best in small, continuous steps, with the people who do the work helping to look for what can be done better.
