Business process
The steps you go through to get something done, from quote to delivery.
A business process is the series of steps you go through to get something done. From a quote to a delivery, from a request to an approval: each time, the work follows a route that is more or less fixed.
Many of those processes were never consciously designed. They grew, step by step, and nobody ever looked at them as a whole. As a result, they contain loops, duplicated work and steps that no longer really serve any purpose.
Mapping your processes is the first step towards improvement. Only when you see how the work really flows, rather than how it should flow, can you make sensible decisions about what could be better.
