System migration
Moving from one system to another without losing your data.
A system migrationMoving data from an old system to a new one. is the move from an old system to a new one while keeping your data. It sounds like a technical job, but the real difficulty lies in the data: it has to come along, correct and complete, without work grinding to a halt.
Old data is rarely as tidy as you would like. Duplicate records, missing fields and historical errors all surface during a migration. That is exactly why a migration is a good moment to clean up your data instead of moving the mess along with it.
You plan a successful migration in stages, with moments to check that everything is right before you make the final switch. Having a way back in reserve is part of that too, in case something does not go as expected.
