Proof of concept
A small test that proves an idea works technically before you invest heavily.
A proof of concept is a small test that shows an idea is technically feasible. Before you put a lot of time and money into a solution, you build a limited version that removes the biggest uncertainty: can this work at all the way we think?
The difference from a real solution is that nothing here is finished for daily use. The test can be rough and leave a lot out, as long as it answers the one question you are not yet sure about. If it works, you carry on. If it doesn't, you have avoided an expensive mistake.
For an SME, this is a way to keep risk small. You only commit to a large investment once the idea has proven itself, instead of just hoping it will.
