Pilot
A limited real-world trial with real users before the wider rollout.
A pilot is a limited real-world trial. You first put a new system or a new way of working into use with one team or one department, with real users and real work, before you roll it out across the whole company.
That way you discover on a small scale what would go wrong on a large one. Users run into things nobody had thought of beforehand, and you can fix them while the damage stays limited. A pilot also gives you your first enthusiastic users, who can later win over their colleagues.
Agree in advance on when the pilot counts as a success. Without a clear yardstick, a trial drags on endlessly or you roll out something that wasn't really ready.
