Project management
Bringing one clearly defined undertaking to a result within scope, time and budget.
Project management is guiding one clearly defined undertaking from a clear start to an agreed result, within the limits of scope, time and budget. Guarding those three limits is the core of the job.
A project has a start and an end. That is what sets it apart from day-to-day work, which keeps running. That is exactly why good scoping matters so much: if it isn't clear what is in and what is out, the work quietly grows until it becomes unmanageable.
Good project management makes problems visible early. A delay or a setback should not be a surprise that only turns up at the end, but something you can correct in time.
