Requirements
The documented requirements a solution has to meet.
Requirements are the conditions you set down before you choose a solution or have one built. They describe what the system must be able to do: which tasks it supports, which other systems it talks to and which rules it has to comply with.
Good requirements start from what your people really need, not from what a package happens to offer. Get that the wrong way round, and you often buy features nobody asked for while missing the one thing that did matter.
Write requirements concretely enough that you can test a solution against them afterwards. A vague wish such as working faster is hard to check, whereas processing an order within five minutes gives you a clear yardstick.
