On-premise

Software that runs on your own servers within the company.

On-premise means software runs on your own servers, inside your own company or in a data centre you rent yourself. You are in charge of the machines, the data and the maintenance. It is the traditional way of working, from before the cloudSoftware and storage you use over the internet rather than on your own servers. became the norm.

The advantage is control. Your data stays in-house, you depend less on an internet connection and you can set everything up exactly the way you want. For companies with strict data requirementsThe documented requirements a solution has to meet. or an unusual setup, that can be decisive.

That control comes at a price. You buy and maintain the hardware yourself, you take care of security and backups, and you replace the servers over time. Factor in that full cost when you compare on-premise with the cloud.
