Governance
The agreements on who decides, who monitors and who is accountable.
Governance is about the agreements on who decides what and who is responsible for what. In a project involving many people and parties, it must be clear who makes the call, who monitors progress and who is accountable to whom.
Without that clarity, confusion sets in. Decisions are left hanging because nobody feels authorised to take them, or they are taken twice because two people think it is their job. Good governance removes that doubt by setting out the roles in advance.
It does not have to be heavy or bureaucratic. For an SME, a short agreement on who decides what and when you meet is often enough. The aim is clarity, not a thick rulebook.
