A dashboard is a single screen that shows your key figures at a glance. Just as a car's dashboard shows your speed and fuel, a dashboard in your business brings together the figures you need to adjust course.
Its value lies in the overview and the speed. Instead of gathering reports from different systems, you see at a glance where things stand. Colours and charts make it immediately clear what is going well and what needs attention.
A good dashboard shows only what really matters. It is tempting to cram everything onto one screen, but then the important gets lost in the incidental. Choose the handful of figures you base your decisions on and leave out the rest.
