IT strategy
A plan that links your technology choices to where your business wants to go.
An IT strategy sets out which technology your business will need in the coming years, and why. It does not start from tools but from your goals: where do you want to grow, what needs to improve, and which systems support that.
Without such a plan, you buy systems whenever a problem comes up. That leads to a patchwork of packages that do not fit together. With a strategy you make choices in the right order and know in advance how a new system fits into the whole.
A good IT strategy is not a thick document that disappears into a drawer. It is short enough to remember and concrete enough to test decisions against.
